the brief

I love guitar pedals, but I’ve never been fully satisfied with conventional pedalboards. I wanted a pedalboard for myself that was beautiful, genuinely functional, and designed around real use — easy pedal changes, clean wiring, and proper access to power without pulling the whole thing apart. That idea became the Northstage One Pedalboard.

Standard build

The default specification is a solid oak frame with walnut sides and walnut-veneered shelves, right-side primary input plus send/return loop plus DC output, and left-side dual outputs plus DC power input.

If you’d like a different wood combination, finish, or socket layout, just add a note when you place the order — I’ll come back to confirm the specification with you before any work starts.

Designed for use, not just display

The defining feature of the design is the hinged upper shelf. Lifting the shelf gives full access to the interior, where the power supply and all cabling live neatly out of sight. No cable spaghetti, no cable ties cut every time something changes. Everything is accessible, logical, and tidy.

Inside, there’s room not just for power but also for additional pedals — ideal for always-on or set-and-forget pedals that don’t need foot access. Even with power installed, there’s space for up to five internal pedals, while the main surface comfortably handles up to fourteen pedals across the front and rear shelves.

The result is a board that works just as well for frequent experimentation as it does for a fixed, dialled-in rig.

Modular connectivity

Both end plates feature recessed cut-outs fitted with small removable insert plates. These plates carry all signal and power connections and can be easily swapped or reconfigured.

For the prototype, I chose:

  • Right side: primary input, send/return loop, and DC output — ideal for adding external pedals such as a wah
  • Left side: dual outputs with DC power input

Because each socket group is mounted on its own insert board, alternative layouts and connector combinations are straightforward to implement. The board is designed to adapt to different rigs, not lock you into one way of working.

Handmade in England

Original design, modelled in CAD and built by hand. Every board is cut, assembled, and finished manually — no kit parts, no mass production.

I originally built the first pedalboard purely for my own use. Once it was finished, it was obvious that this was something special, so I decided to make a small batch of four to see whether there was interest. The result is a pedalboard that’s as considered and well-made as the pedals it holds — practical, adaptable, and quietly beautiful.
