commission

AN AMP MADE FOR YOU

Bespoke valve amplifiers, tailored from one of three core designs, built one at a time and voiced on the bench.

how a commission works

FOUR STEPS, ROUGHLY THREE MONTHS

01

THE CONVERSATION

A call or email exchange to discuss and fully understand your brief. Often the real brief is different from what you first ask for, and the conversation is where it's surfaced.

02

THE SPECIFICATION

A written specification, including quotation and a delivery date. When you're happy, you sign off and pay a deposit before the build starts. If you want to make changes after this, I can usually accommodate, but it may affect the price and delivery date.

03

THE BUILD

Usually between eight to twelve weeks. Photo updates as we go through chassis, wiring, cabinet and finish. The whole journey, not just the destination.

04

THE VOICING & HANDOVER

Final voicing before it leaves the bench, with you in the room if you can travel. Then it goes home with you, with the build sheet and care notes.

what's possible

FAIR PRICES, NO HIDDEN BANDS

Most amp commissions land between £3,400 and £5,500, depending on power rating, general complexity, valve choices and cabinet hardwoods. A precise quote follows the conversation in step one — and once it's signed off, that's the price you pay. No creep, no surprises.

the brief

TELL ME WHAT YOU'RE AFTER

A few questions to help me understand what you're after. Nothing is set in stone — this is just the start of a journey.

about you

about the build

Players, records, amps you have in mind. Be as specific or as broad as you like.

Tell me anything you think I should know — favourite players, prior builds you've owned, the room it'll live in.

what happens next

I READ EVERY BRIEF MYSELF

You'll hear back within two working days, usually with a few questions to help me understand what you're after. If we both feel it's the right fit, I'll send a written specification and quote within a week of that conversation.

Or drop me a line directly at philip@northstage.co.uk.
