About Northstage
Northstage is a small workshop building hand-wired valve amps and pedals, some faithful reproductions, some original designs, all built one at a time. After forty years of building things for myself, I've finally turned it into something other people can enjoy. Read the full story here.
The work follows a few simple ideas. Faithful reproductions of classics like the '64 Vibroverb and the Dumble Overdrive Special sit alongside original designs of my own. Either way, every amp is hand-wired, built with the best components I can source, and finished in a cabinet I make myself — solid oak or walnut for heads, poplar ply or pine finger joints for combos. Pedals follow the same approach: vintage heritage, modern engineering, none of the old quirks I can design out. Right now there's a Dumble ODS recreation and my take on a classic chorus on the workbench.
First phase
Northstage is deliberately small as my main focus is on one-off commissions and not directly building to hold stock. However, as I design a new amp for myself, I always build two so from time to time, these will be available to buy. Simarly with pedals, I always build these in small batches that I list here. The is Northstage first phase and it isn't about scaling, it's about a hobby paying for itself, and the people I get to meet because of it.
Brighton Guitar Show 2026
In July 2026 I'll be at the Brighton Guitar Show — a small stand, a few amps, a few pedals, in a room full of people I'd very much like to meet. If you're going, come and say hello.
