1966 Prototype

The 1966 pedal was inspired by three of my favourite vintage pedals from the 1960s. London 1966, Arbiter Electronics released the Fuzz-Face pedal. That same year Sola Sound released the three transistor version of the Tone-Bender and the previous year, Dallas released the Rangemaster treble boost.

When I started designing this pedal, I only set out to create a modern Fuzz circuit using negative GND and silicone transistors for better stability, but get it to sound as close as to a vintage Germanium fuzz tone as possible. As this evolved, I realised by adding a switchable gain stage in front of the Fuzz circuit, I could switch between a Fuzz-Face and Tone-Bender tone. At the same time I was working on an inverted Rangemaster circuit and found they worked really well together so decided to put them both into one pedal.
